Worshipful Master - elect: Planning Guide


Election night:

Announce appointed officers after election of officers

Provide the Secretary with a copy for the new Trestleboard.

Announce Committees (if not available, this information needs to be in the Jan Trestleboard)

Especially Lodge Instructor and Catechism Instructor

Read proposed Budget

Announce to incoming officers your preference for meeting attire

Any other topics that you have planned for your year in the East, such as Degree Practice schedule


Installation Planning::

Establish date and time

Prepare guest sign-in sheets (Secretary has forms from previous years)

This information is used by the Installing Officer. Select the:

Installing Officer _______________________

Installing Marshal ______________________

Installing Chaplain _____________________

Select who will prepare and print program

Note: Limit Invitations to special Trestleboard announcement (no special mailing)

Inform Officers to be installed of your choice of attire (White or Black coat, or suit)

Let Officers know what time to be at the Lodge to OPEN, prior to the Installation and to close the Funeral Lodge.

Coordinate with the presiding Worshipful Master

Who will be in charge of refreshments?

Who will clean up Lodge after refreshments?


Schedule dates to meet with renters of Lodge

Discuss Agreement for ensuing year (one-on-one with counter parts), should be available by January 1st.

Property Committee responsibilities should be factored in

Get Liability Waiver Policy, should be available by January 1st

Get list from each organization of who has Lodge Entrance Door Keys, return unused keys

All dates must be cleared through the Worshipful Master

Get calendar for the year, for WM-elects planning purposes, dates can be added per WM

Sign new agreements for ensuing year

Non-Masonic groups: provide check to Lodge in advance of each event

Masonic groups are very good about sending check quickly


First meeting: approve for Secretary/Treasurer to pay bills as budgeted during the year

Ensure that an independent audit be conducted of the Secretary & Treasurer’s Books


Worshipful Master meet with Secretary and Treasurer: cover your specific preferences, such as but not limited to:

Petition Status reporting, chairmen of Petition and Investigation Committees

Year-to-date budget versus actual income and expenses

Trestleboard content, frequency


Meet with your officers:

Who prepares: pre-Lodge dinners, fund raisers, pancake breakfasts, other

Who cleans rest rooms, fellowship hall, Lodge Room, etc.

Who stays after events to clean and put out trash


Prepare a Meeting Agenda for your year.
